Veer Savarkar : The Revolutionary
Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is inspiration for many Indians including myself. His sacrifice for the motherland is what makes him great. He is epitome of patriotism. He was not only a freedom fighter but he also worked on the social issues such as untouchability. He wanted to eradicate caste system from Indian society. He believed in democracy. His views were scientific. He was critique of religion. (He criticised every religion!) His works like 'Jatyucchedak Nibandh' (जात्युच्छेदक निबंध ) were much ahead of time. He also worked for Bhasha Shuddhi of Marathi language. He introduced new marathi words to substitute english words. For example 'दूरदर्शन' for 'Television', 'दूरध्वनी' for 'Telephone', 'महापौर' for 'Mayor' and many among the others. Maharashtrians still use these words in day to day life.
