Veer Savarkar : The Revolutionary

Swatantryaveer Vinayak Damodar Savarkar is inspiration for many Indians including myself. His sacrifice for the motherland is what makes him great. He is epitome of patriotism. He was not only a freedom fighter but he also worked on the social issues such as untouchability. He wanted to eradicate caste system from Indian society. He believed in democracy. His views were scientific. He was critique of religion. (He criticised every religion!) His works like 'Jatyucchedak Nibandh' (जात्युच्छेदक निबंध) were much ahead of time. He also worked for Bhasha Shuddhi of Marathi language. He introduced new marathi words to substitute english words. For example 'दूरदर्शन' for 'Television', 'दूरध्वनी' for 'Telephone', 'महापौर' for 'Mayor' and many among the others. Maharashtrians still use these words in day to day life.

Besides this he was an extraordinary poet too. His poems like 'सागरा प्राण तळमळला' and 'जयोस्तुते' are examples of his brilliant writing skills. (One must listen these poems on YouTube.)

But all this is not enough for some people. They always try to defame Savarkar by one means or other. Savarkar followers who have studied Savarkar and his works always produce facts and evidences against these defamations. But this isn't work as we all know there is no medicine for prejudice!
The only reason for this is Savarkar worked for uniting Hindus. Raising voice for Hindus and putting Nation first are his only faults!

Renowned Marathi writer Kusumagraj compared Swatantryaveer Savarkar with Greek god Prometheus who was sentenced to punishment by Zeus where each day an eagle, the emblem of Zeus was sent to eat his liver which would then grow back overnight to be eaten again the next day. Prometheus's only fault was that he brought fire for the humanity! Even after 54 years of his death Swa. Savarkar hasn't got what he deserves.

But there is one positive thing that, Savarkar is now reaching to the masses like never before. And I hope one day the whole Nation will realise importance of Swa. Savarkar and his thoughts!
