Media in India : An observation
The 2014 Lok Sabha elections changed the Indian politics forever. What was considered politically untouchable by one ideology came into the mainstream. Secularism is now replaced by Nationalism. The politics of 'vote bank' is slowly disappearing. Many other things have changed with this. The so called fourth pillar of democracy has also changed! After 2014, The media in India have simply divided into two groups.
One group grabbed the right hand while the other group was already on the left. But still today all kinds of media is dominated by the left. It is not true that the right group never existed, but they could not reach the masses. After 2014, such a 'right' group was formed in the so-called 'mainstream' media. Moreover, because social media is open to people of all kinds, many anti left journalists and web portals borned there. It was clear that this would certainly jeopardize the domination of those who had believed that journalism is their possession. Common people also started asking questions to these so called intellectual journalists and then certainly they felt that 'there voice is being suppressed'!
One so called intellectual journalist in his every lecture or interview tells people that "people should not watch TV, as news channels are speeding hatred" but then he comes to the TV every night and calls every other news channels as 'godi media'. Isn't it ironic? But why he call 'others' godi media? Just because they don't think as he think, they don't show what he want to see, they don't speak as he want them to!
When telling a news or making a point, facts are usually presented first, then the statement and then the conclusion is drawn. But we have news channels, newspapers, so-called intelligent people doing the opposite. By creating narratives in advance, they freely draw conclusions, without facts and evidences! There was a time when so-called intelligent journalists / thinkers had habit of not being asked about their claims. Therefore, they thought that whatever we will say is the final truth. But times have changed, and social media has become available to the general public. People began to question the statement / claim made by these intellectuals along with proper arguments, facts and evidences. Instead of answering these ordinary people, these intellectuals started calling them 'trolls' or 'Bhakts'! After realising that people will not stop these so called intellectuals started playing 'victim card'. Then they declared that 'democracy' is under threat, how the constitution must be saved and this is an 'undeclared emergency'! Just ask any individual of 70s era or any impartial journalist you will come to know that they will never compare 'the emergency' with today!
Is it wrong to ask questions to these intellectuals or to tell the facts? These people have reduced all words like 'emergency' to such an extent that they have reduced the intensity of these words. When these people say 'Dar Ka Mahol hai' is true for them, they are afraid of facts, arguments and common people's questions! When they say 'we will ask questions', they forget that in democracy asking questions is not a one way road, public will also ask them for facts and evidences!
